Profile
The Chair of Information and Automation Systems for Process and Material Technology at the former Chair of Process Control Engineering represents the field of process automation in research and teaching. Within the area of teaching, our chair offers general introductory courses in dynamics and measurement technology. Additionally, our chair also offers more specialized courses in the fields of automation technology, modelling and optimization.
The Chair of Informaton and Automation Sytems for Process and Material Technology (in former times " Chair of Process Control Engineering" was established in 1991. It was the first of its kind in Germany. The department is part of the academic group metalurgy and material technology within Faculty 5 Georessources and Material Sciences of the RWTH Aachen University.
A theoretical research focus of our chair is the description of control-related concepts with the help of meta-models and the management of these meta-models with formal methods. With regard to applications, our focus lies on the development of innovative information concepts for the continuous support of engineering processes, the optimization of process control and the management of plants during the lifecycle of a production facility. Our chair works in close cooperation with leading manufacturers and users in the process industry and supports the national and international standardization committees in all areas of automation technology through its active participation.
